La Fundación KM nació en La Araucanía, la región de Chile con mayor presencia mapuche y al mismo tiempo la más compleja en términos de conflicto territorial y político. Su fundación en 2019 responde a ese diagnóstico: el camino es el fortalecimiento real de las comunidades y la construcción de relaciones interculturales genuinas.The KM Foundation was born in La Araucanía, the region of Chile with the largest Mapuche presence and, at the same time, the most complex in terms of territorial and political conflict. La Fundación no es una organización de protesta ni una ONG de servicios. Produce conocimiento, impulsa políticas públicas y ejecuta programas concretos desde una posición de independencia respecto del Estado y del mercado.The Foundation is neither a protest organization nor a service NGO. It produces knowledge, drives public policy and runs concrete programs from a position of independence from both the State and the market.
Su trabajo se inscribe en una larga tradición de autodeterminación no separatista: la reclamación de derechos colectivos y especificidad cultural dentro de un marco político compartido — sin separatismo, pero tampoco sin disolución de identidad. Una tercera vía distinta de la asimilación y del aislamiento.Its work belongs to a long tradition of non-separatist self-determination: claiming collective rights and cultural specificity within a shared political framework, without separatism but also without the dissolution of identity.
